My second « Love at first sight »
by Samy Odin

Publication date : 16 March 2012

My second « Love at first sight » concerns a recent acquisition that will now be on display in our permanent collection.

It is a classic lady doll by BRU with a fully articulated wooden body. The head is made out of the smiling mold by this company, in size F. It stands 16’ and is fully originally dressed with a Jewish costume.

On its original cardboard box, one car read « Poupée Juive » handwritten in those lovely letters of another time. The quality of the costume is remarkable. The colors combination and the quality of the sewing and embroidery are typical of an up-scaled plaything. The costume features a wide robe cut with pagoda sleeves, a wool jacket with fine embroidery and a matching hat decorated with gilded coins.

This type of doll was patented by Léon Casimir BRU at the end of the 1860s and produced until the end of the following decade. For those interested in seeing it “in person”, it is displayed in the BRU showcase in the second room of the museum.
